Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of set installation including:

using appropriate dust suppression and extraction methods

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the installation and maintenance of vents that meets all of the required outcomes including:

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions, and convey work progress

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

demonstrates completion of set installation that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

conducting equipment pre-start checks and start up procedures

isolating and locking out ventilation devices

installing and testing catenary cable or securing to existing ground support mechanisms

hanging and securing ventilation bag

removing vent whilst ensuring safety of personnel and equipment

conducting housekeeping activities


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in installing and maintaining vent through:

risk assessment and hazard management

environmental issues

working underground

equipment parking

site conditions including:

basic geological and technical data

environmental issues

ground control characteristics and applications

dust suppression and extraction equipment

ventilation equipment processes, technical capability and limitations

site ventilation quality and quantity requirements

being prepared for events for fire/accident/emergency
